History

Webster Farm
The Webster family started Arethusa Farm as a dairy farm in 1868. The farm was named for the pink orchids that grew by a pond on the property. The farm delivered milk and dairy products locally until 1975.
Arethusa Farm
George Malkemus and Anthony Yurgaitis purchased the Webster family farm in 1999 with the intention of saving open farmland. In 2001, George and Tony became interested in establishing their own dairy herd. The first five purebred registered Holsteins were purchased for the farm, and Jerseys and Brown Swiss would soon follow. In 2009, Arethusa Farm began bottling milk under its new label and selling it in local stores. Two buildings were purchased in Bantam, and the construction of the Arethusa Farm Dairy began. The new dairy began production, and a retail store opened shortly thereafter, with ice cream and cheese joining the production line.
